Moving Company in Denver, Road Scholars Moving & Storage, talks about how to choose the right moving company in Denver. Moving has always been associated with being one of the most stressful lifetime events. However, choosing the right moving company in Denver, can greatly relieve the majority of your stress. There are many ways to reduce the cost of your professional moving services, but if the price seems too good to be true, then it probably is.
First, you will want to figure out what moving services you are willing to pay for. Most Denver movers will do everything top to bottom related to moving. If your budget allows; they can pack all of your belongings, move all of the items from your current address to your new address and even unpack your contents. If you are not interested in a full service move, you will need to decide what services is priority. Some people pack all of their contents, with exception to fragile items, which are more difficult to safely pack. This is called a partial pack.
You may only want the movers to move all of the boxes you packed and your furniture. To lower your moving expenses, you might move some or all of your boxes and the smaller pieces of furniture; leaving just the heavier, more difficult pieces to the professionals.
Next, ask your friends, family and neighbors for references to several Denver moving companies. Contact at least three companies to get a quote. You may go to their website and fill-out their online estimate form, email them requesting pricing information, call them to get a phone quote or ask an estimator to schedule an appointment for an on-site estimate. Ask lots of questions, such as: weekday and weekend rates, hidden costs, scheduling procedures, if a deposit is taken and what forms of payment are accepted. The key is to get all information up front, so there are no surprises! Assess how you feel about each Denver moving company.
Is the company representative knowledgeable? Are they friendly and helpful? Did they give verbal guarantees that they can’t keep? Unfortunately, there are some unethical business practices within the industry. Bait and switch is one of them; some companies may make empty promises of a cheap move and then charge double or sometimes triple the amount given. Typically I suggest throwing out any ridiculously low or extremely high quotes.
Once you have narrowed down your selection, do your homework and make sure they are a legitimate company. Selecting a mover, that is licensed in the state they are operating in, is paramount. Contact your state’s Public Utilities Commission, to verify license information. Another great resource is the Better Business Bureau.
For instance, you may contact the Denver/Boulder Better Business Bureau online, to get Denver moving company’s BBB ratings. Finally you have chosen the moving company! Now you can begin to prepare for your move. Once you have decided what services they will provide for you, preparation is key. Being organized and ready for the moving crew’s arrival will save time and money. Make sure to complete any services that you plan to do on your own, before they arrive. If you are packing yourself, have all of your contents fully packed, your boxes sealed and labeled.
If you plan on disassembling your beds, desks, etc.; do it the night prior to your move or first thing in the morning. Also, pre-arrange parking for the moving truck, so that it can park as close as possible; to the entrance of your home, office or apartment. Many times the access can be a huge variable to the cost of your move. Not just choosing a mover, but choosing the right mover, will make your move less stressful. Applying these simple tips should prevent disaster and allow for a professional moving experience. It is possible to get a quality move at reasonable rates.

What happens when it snows on moving day? In Denver, moving day can be unpredictable in the winter. It can either be sunny and warm or snowy and freezing cold. As a common quote goes: “Welcome to Colorado. If you don’t like the weather in wait five minutes it will change”.
We tell our clients to play it by ear. If on moving day, there is a light dusting we would proceed without any issues. If there is heavy snow, you need to weigh the risks vs. the benefits of moving in such inclement weather. Our local Denver moving rates are hourly. If it is snowy, please understand that the final charges would be more (sometimes a lot more). Also, the frigid temps can slow traffic and cause long delays. Additionally, depending on the severity of the snow, furniture or boxes could get snowed on, between trips to our moving truck. This will happen even with the best padding and protection. The decision to move or not to move is the question, and you should discuss all options with your Denver moving company before proceeding.

Should Movers in Denver, wear booties? While at first this may sound like a good idea, it doesn’t really hold up to scrutiny. This procedure may be quite appropriate for your plumber or cable man, who brings most of their tools/equipment necessary for their job, within one to two trips. However, your movers may make 200+ trips back and forth. The only way to incorporate this process into moving would be to (at each trip): carry a piece of furniture to the front door and put it down before entering the home, put the booties on, and then resume moving the piece into the rooms of the home. Upon returning to the truck for the next piece, they will need to stop at the door to remove the booties to prevent contamination from outdoors. Even if this procedure only adds 30 seconds each time, multiply that by several hundred trips! If you are paying your movers by the hour, which is common practice for local movers in Denver, this can become extremely cost prohibitive.
|“My booties are slippery!”|
A safe and economical alternative would be carpet shield for carpeted halls or stairways, in combination with taping down pads (designated for floors) in the entryway. Using this procedure, if something were on the movers’ shoes, this gives them an opportunity to wipe them upon entry and protects main pathways in the home.
Choosing Movers in Denver? When you are moving, the last thing you want to do is to spend your valuable time talking to several movers in Denver. However, it is imperative to do a little research to avert a moving nightmare. How do you choose reputable movers in Denver?
Good luck with your upcoming move!
